Topchi is more than just a name—it's a legacy, a folklore, and a way of life for many in our neck of the woods. Its roots trace back to pre-independence India, originating from Asia’s first and largest Artillery center in Nashik. We set up a modest establishment across the firing range and adopted this grand name to signify our renegade spirit, choosing craft beers over wines in India's wine capital Nashik. The word literally means 'Gunner', so we had to be bold and brave with our flavour choices or styles and always be gunning for great craft beers. The colloquial version, 'Top-Chi' means the best or topmost so it's a given that locals are proudly owning us and even the soldiers posted here are boasting about us by spreading the word and also by posting photos everywhere with our pint in hand. There's also a dark side about the local villages on the other side of firing range who depended on collecting the metal post the shelling practice and selling in scrap market for decades but let's discuss that in person and get more detailed explanation about how this word, Topchi is so much more than gunner or the act of firing.
The first microbrewery of Nashik, Topchi Brewing, is now the permanent home for our craft beers, to create styles and brew something phenomenal that is inspired from International styles but made in India, with local resources and our own twist on it. With the craft beer revolution vigorously brewing in India we are not far away from having our own beer styles and guidelines defined with tasting notes around palate of sub continent.
We haven't stopped with just the beers and the brewery but gone ahead and opened the city's largest taproom, 'Topchi Outpost' featuring over 12 taps offering not only great beers but also delicious food, wines, ciders, meads, kombucha, coffee, and more. You'll need to visit multiple times to sample everything, and don't forget to ask the server about the specials or off-menu items. We expect to see you often, as around here we are known for craft brewing some crazy ales and conversations!
Cheers!
